Characters
Hazel Thornton (voiced by Brenna Anderson-Dowd, she/her)
In her late 20s and 5'2", Hazel has long wavy brown hair that she tends to keep in a braid. A tattoo of daisies, rosemary, and roses encircles her left wrist. Since her work can put a lot of wear and tear on a wardrobe, she usually wears jeans, sarcastic t-shirts, and Doc Martens. Since she's been teased for being a "punk goth, but lazy" more than once, one could be forgiven for the assumption that the rips and tears in her clothing are an affectation rather than a side effect of living with a miniature dragon.
Having lived her adult life mostly in the human world, Hazel’s a perpetually exhausted pigeon trying to establish a professional presence in a community that remembers her as a child. Despite her penchant for taking in strays - and grumbling about them the whole time - she has the self-care skills of a wilted turnip.
Vincent Julia (voiced by Frederick Elmore, he/they)
Julia is a six foot tall half-orc with blunted tusks. He dyes his hair to hide the green tints and avoids the sun to keep his skin colour within a more human range.
Like many paranormal species, orcs age differently than other humanoids so it might surprise anyone unfamiliar with them to learn that Julia is only 15 years old. It didn't help that he had to begin fending for himself at an even younger age after having been raised to think he was human.
One night he found himself needing to leave town in a hurry, which was when Hazel found him sitting at a bus stop "like a lost little puppy." She patched him up, gave him a crash course in Orcs 101, and sent him off to her grandmother. He's been living in the Pacific Northwest ever since and helping out at the Garden.
Eric Malcolm (voiced by Keith Baldwin, he/him)
Malcolm was a Perthro minion until his conscience finally woke from its coma and he helped smuggle Addison out of the facility where they were being held captive. Shortly afterwards, he approached Hazel with a plan on how to free the rest of the prisoners. During the rescue, he was mauled by a werewolf. Hazel saved his life, but couldn't predict how lycanthropy would interact with his ability to nullify magic.
Addison Clarke (voiced by Taryn Baldwin, they/them)
Perthro kidnapped Addison and experimented on them when they were only 14 years old, leaving them with multiple transplants. These include one pure black eye without sclera (the other's blue and human), retractable vampire fangs, an additional right arm from a demon and attached below their right arm (which is still human), the lower half of their left arm is from an Annis hag, and their additional left arm appears human.
Addison's family had their memories erased to ensure they wouldn't go looking for them and the sight of Addison causes brain bleeds. They haven't been living with Hazel for very long so they're still trying to figure out their body and where they fit in all the weirdness.
Rosemary "Nana" Thornton (voiced by Noelle Rose, she/her)
Autoclave aka Auto (voiced by Dobbie the Cockatiel, he/him)
Auto is a juvenile miniature dragon about the size of a housecat with green scales that shimmer with purple iridescence. Like all miniature dragons, he has a pouch like a marsupial, but they're used for carrying treasure rather than their young; this allows them to keep their talons free for defense against larger predators.
He was chasing after a particularly tasty looking bug when he was hit by a car. Luckily, the driver brought him to Marguerite's Garden. Upon regaining consciousness in an unfamiliar place with strangers poking at him, Auto panicked and left a small trail of destruction in the office. The driver beat a hasty retreat before they could be held liable for the damages, leaving him with Hazel and Julia. As he recovered, he needed a way to safely vent his flame breath on a regular basis so Hazel taught him how to sterilize equipment, which is how he earned his name.
